Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC) in Groton, CT, is seeking a Quality Technician to support the Quality Control Department.

You will handle documentation, data entry, and reporting while supporting nonconformance management, MRB concessions, and quality system activities. You will collaborate with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, and Management to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory quality requirements and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a technical, engineering, quality, or business-related field preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, quality, or technical administrative role preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems preferred.
  • Experience with nonconformance reporting, MRB processes, document control, or quality systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Quality Control Department with documentation, data entry, reporting, and general administrative support activities.
  • Review and evaluate Nonconforming Material Reports (NMRs) for accuracy and compliance with procedures and customer requirements.
  • Prepare MRB concession requests to customers with supporting data.
  • Maintain records and tracking files for all NMR and MRB activity for traceability and audits.
  • Enter and analyze quality data related to nonconformances, concessions, and cost of quality metrics.
  • Process revisions to quality procedures and control documents per document control requirements.
  • Support contract review by verifying applicable quality and customer requirements.
  • Prepare quality reports, spreadsheets, and summaries for review by Quality Engineering and management.
  • Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives per Quality Product Manager directions.
  • Assist tracking of quality improvement actions and effectiveness.
  • Provide clerical support for audits, inquiries, and regulatory reviews.
  • Coordinate filing and retrieval of quality records per system requirements.
  • Communicate with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing to support daily quality activities.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Job Description

The Quality Technician provides administrative, technical, and analytical support to the Quality Control Department within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for supporting nonconformance management, customer concessions, documentation control, data analysis, and quality system activities. The position works closely with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, and Management to ensure compliance with contractual, customer, and regulatory quality requirements while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Quality Control Department with documentation, data entry, reporting, and general administrative support activities.
  • Review and evaluate Nonconforming Material Reports (NMRs) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal procedures and customer requirements.
  • Prepare, write, and submit Material Review Board (MRB) concession requests to customers, including required supporting data.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and tracking files for all NMR and MRB activity to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
  • Enter, maintain, and analyze quality data related to nonconformances, concessions, and cost of quality metrics.
  • Process revisions to quality procedures, work instructions, and related documentation in accordance with document control requirements.
  • Support contract review activities by assisting with verification of applicable quality, documentation, and customer requirements as assigned.
  • Prepare quality reports, spreadsheets, and summaries for review by Quality Engineering and management.
  • Support Quality Department cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives as directed by the Quality Product Manager.
  • Assist with tracking and documentation of quality improvement actions and their effectiveness.
  • Provide clerical and organizational support for audits, customer inquiries, and regulatory reviews as needed.
  • Coordinate filing, record retention, and retrieval of quality records in accordance with quality system requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel to support daily quality activities.
  • Understand, follow, and comply with all company and departmental safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational and business needs
SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately enter, review, and maintain quality records and data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, for data analysis, reporting, and document preparation.
  • Ability to interpret and follow written procedures, work instructions, and quality system documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to support interaction with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and management personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain organized records, and meet deadlines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic analytical skills to identify trends, discrepancies, or recurring quality issues.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a crossfunctional team.
  • Must be able to work in an office and manufacturing environment; occasional time on the shop floor may be required.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions such as keyboarding and filing; occasional lifting of files or materials up to approximately 35 pounds.
  • Must comply with all company and departmental safety policies and procedures.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports directly to the Quality Product Manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a technical, engineering, quality, or business-related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, quality, or technical administrative role preferred.
  • Experience with nonconformance reporting, MRB processes, document control, or quality systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems preferred.
  • Experience in an aerospace, investment casting, or regulated manufacturing environment.
