Job summary

Patch Rubber, a Myers Industries Company, is seeking a Quality Lab Technician I to perform laboratory testing, inspection, and documentation to ensure materials and finished goods meet requirements. You will support production and quality teams, maintain equipment, and ensure data accuracy in a fast-paced rubber manufacturing site.

The role requires a high school diploma, and laboratory or rubber manufacturing experience is preferred.

Quality Lab Technician I
Job Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Compliance for the site, the Quality Laboratory Technician, Level I performs laboratory testing, inspection, analysis, and documentation activities to ensure raw materials, in-process compounds, rubber products, adhesives, and finished goods meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements. This position supports manufacturing operations through accurate data collection, timely reporting of test results, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and compliance with ISO quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform physical, chemical, and performance testing of rubber compounds, cements, adhesives, fabrics, and finished products.
  • Collect and prepare samples for laboratory evaluation.
  • Conduct viscosity, hardness, specific gravity, cure, tensile, adhesion, dimensional and other product testing.
  • Record and communicate results accurately.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished goods.
  • Support nonconformance investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain traceability and documentation.
  • Calibrate and maintain test equipment.
  • Follow ISO 9001 procedures.
  • Support audits and continuous improvement.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility in work schedule and be available to work overtime, weekends, and occasional extended shifts as business needs require.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support production, quality, and testing requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to interpret data.
  • Strong communication and organization.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma required.
  • Laboratory or rubber manufacturing experience preferred.

Work conditions are consistent with a manufacturing plant environment. The Quality Laboratory Technician, Level I requires a moderate degree of physical fitness, as the role requires him/her to lift up to 35 lbs. This role also requires some standing and walking throughout the Quality Laboratory area as required. The Quality Laboratory Technician, Level I must also be able to work near moving mechanical machinery, and must be able to work in an environment with high noise levels (hearing protection required in some areas).
