Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ is seeking an Inspector to ensure vendor and manufacturing compliance with ISO9001 standards. You will perform visual and dimensional inspections of precision optics and mechanical components, often under microscopes or bright lighting, and record measurements against drawings.

The role may require occasional work at other Thorlabs locations. This position emphasizes attention to detail, reading tolerances, and data entry in our manufacturing database.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience or related technical education.
• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Skilled in handheld measuring tools including calipers and micrometers.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and interpret dimensional tolerances.
• Strong verbal and written communication for team environments.
• Capable of adapting to process changes and cross-training in inspection areas.
• Proficient with MS Office and ERP software.

Responsibilities

• Identify non-conformances through specified inspection methods.
• Perform detailed visual inspections on intricate parts, occasionally under microscopes.
• Keep accurate records and report measurements against drawings.
• Maintain metrology equipment and support filming/laser engraving tasks as needed.
• Create advance reports and presentations for quality metrics.
• Work with minimal supervision and collaborate with vendors and peers.
