Job summary

Thorlabs’ Newton, NJ site seeks a Mechanical Shop Inspector to uphold high quality through first article, in-process, and production inspections of precision mechanical components. You will measure with micrometers, calipers, and gauges, interpret blueprints, and ensure compliance with ISO9001 standards.

The role requires 1–3 years of related experience, a high school or trade diploma, and strong attention to detail. Expect an on-site, full-time position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of related experience is a plus.
• High School or Trade School diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to interpret mechanical blueprint specifications (metric/imperial).
• Ability to learn to use handheld inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Proficient MS Office and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently within a team.
• High attention to detail and organization.

Responsibilities

• Unbiased evaluation of items to blueprint specifications and manufacturing standards.
• Utilize inspection equipment to measure highly toleranced components.
• Perform and document accurate dimensional and visual inspections.
• Segregate and clearly mark non-conforming material; sort and rework as required.
• Handle, protect, and clearly mark components with accurate quantities.
• Ensure calibrated and well-maintained equipment is used and updated.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Continuously improve quality, processes, and documentation within inspection.
