Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech is seeking a Quality Inspector I to perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections in a defense aerospace setting. You will verify parts against drawings using basic measuring tools and document results in ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–2 years in manufacturing, inspection, or quality; aerospace/defense preferred.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and inspection plans.
  • Experience with basic measuring tools and ERP/quality systems.
  • AS9100 awareness and internal inspection certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspection against drawings, specs, and work instructions.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and go/no-go gauges to verify dimensions.
  • Record inspection results in records, travelers, and ERP or quality systems.
  • Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming material and notify supervisor for disposition.
  • Verify measuring equipment is calibrated and report out-of-calibration items.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area with ESd/FOD controls as applicable.
  • Support first article and in-process inspections under guidance.
  • Adhere to ITAR/EAR, safety, and environmental requirements.

WORK LOCATION:Ann Arbor, MI

FLSA STATUS:Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE:The anticipated salary range for this role is $20.00 to $27.00 per hour. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.

SUMMARY

QualityInspector I performs basic receiving, in-process, and final visual and dimensional inspection of parts, materials, and assemblies to verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions within an AS9100certifiedaerospace and defense manufacturing environment. Working under close supervision, the incumbent documents inspection results,identifiesand segregates nonconforming product, and supports the site quality management system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.

  • Perform receiving, inprocess, and final inspection of parts, materials, and assemblies against engineering drawings, purchase orders, specifications, and approved work instructions.
  • Use basic measuring and test equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and go/no-go gauges to verify dimensional characteristics.
  • Conduct visual inspection for workmanship, surface finish, identification and marking, and obvious defectsin accordance withapplicable acceptance criteria.
  • Record inspection results accurately and legibly in inspection records, travelers, and the ERP or quality system.
  • Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming material and notify the lead or supervisor for dispositionin accordance withthe control of nonconforming output process.
  • Verify that measuring equipment is within current calibration prior to use and report out-of-calibration or damaged equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD (foreign object debris) controlled work area andcomply withESD-handling requirements where applicable.
  • Support first article and in-process inspection activities under the guidance of higher-level inspectors.
  • Adhere to all quality, safety, ITAR/EAR, and environmental requirements applicable to the work area.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, inspection, or quality environment; aerospace or defense experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings, work instructions, and inspection plans.
  • Working knowledge of basic dimensional measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges), with the ability to obtain internal inspection certification.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry into ERP or quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and the ability to follow documented procedures.
  • Ability to obtain andmaintainrequired internal AS9100 awareness and inspection certifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in an AS9100 or ISO 9001certified manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with foreign object debris (FOD) and ESD control (ANSI/ESD S20.20) practices.
  • Exposure to first article inspection (FAI) and basic GD&T concepts.

This position may require access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). To comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants will be asked to provide specific documentation to verify a US person’s status under the ITAR and the EAR.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
