Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to ensure welding and mechanical pipe work meet required codes and standards, and to drive quality improvements across the manufacturing process. A CWI is ideal, with responsibilities spanning testing oversight, recordkeeping, and cross-department quality culture.

The role emphasizes documentation, data analysis, and coordination with management to sustain high quality in a full-service MEP contracting environment in Richmond, VA.

Qualifications

• Experience in QA/QC in manufacturing or welding settings.
• Strong understanding of codes and standards used in welding and piping.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and supervise welding qualification testing per ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1.
• Collaborate with management to promote a quality culture across departments.
• Maintain welder qualification records in the in-house tracking system.
• Perform welding visual inspections per applicable codes and standards.
• Coordinate scheduling of NDT with outside contractors.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for quality issues.
• Analyze inspection data and generate management reports.

The ColonialWebb Quality Control Inspector ensures welding and mechanical pipe work meet required codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines. Ideally a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). This role ensures quality compliance and actively contributes to process efficiency and continuous quality improvement. The Quality Control Inspector champions the successful implementation of quality improvement methods at every stage throughout the manufacturing process.

A Day In The Life

• Conduct/supervise welding qualification testing in accordance with ASME Section IX and/or AWS D1.1 requirements
• Work with management and supervisors to instill quality culture throughout all departments
• Maintain welder qualification records using an in-house tracking system
• Conduct welding visual inspection in accordance with applicable codes and standards
• Coordinate scheduling of non-destructive testing by outside contractors
• Drive root cause analysis and corrective / preventive actions for quality issues
• Analyze inspection data and generate summary reports for management / manufacturing team

You Should Have

• Experience with quality assurance / quality control
• Computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• A high school diploma
• Certified Welding Inspector Certification and NDT Level II Visual Testing Certification Education
• Understanding of product design, operation, and manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of ANSI/AISC 360-16 Specification of Structural Steel Building, Chapter N (Quality Control and Quality Assurance).
• Knowledge of ASME 31.1 & B31.9
