Job description

Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device – one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler – that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Inspector to join our manufacturing team. As a Quality Inspector, you're not just checking boxes – you will be the leader of product integrity and the driving force for continuous improvement within the production process. You'll be proactively enhancing our inspection processes, tackling a backlog challenge, and implementing deviation procedures to ensure every product is produced with materials that meet Atomic Machines high quality standards. You're not just identifying problems – you're driving solutions and improvements that have measurable impact. The Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting materials, parts, and products to ensure they meet established quality standards and specifications.

What You’ll Do:
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of incoming materials in a timely manner. This includes raw materials and components.
  • Enhancing and maintaining IQC practices/procedures to support company goals.

  • Review, enhance, and advise on Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Develop a plan and implement a process to clear up a backlog of uninspected materials.
  • Verify materials and parts are in line with drawing requirements.
  • Document inspection results accurately and maintain quality records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop and implement a deviation process for incoming materials.
  • Identify and report non-conformances, aid in driving root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality procedures and applicable industry standards.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in audits, process verifications, and quality review meetings as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized inspection area.
What You’ll Need:
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality control or inspection role.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical inspection techniques and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of some high-tech grade materials (e.g., Specialty metals, high-purity gases, chemicals, ceramics).
  • Experience following and improving Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to follow work instructions thoroughly and accurately.
  • Good computer skills and ability to use Google Suite or Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom or lab environment as required.
  • Standing, lifting (up to 30 lbs), and performing precise manual inspections for extended periods.
  • May require the use of PPE and handling of chemical materials (with proper safety measures).
