Job summary

Hydro Extrusions in Phoenix, AZ seeks a Quality Engineer, Customer Quality - Dayshift. The role focuses on driving quality culture, using data and shop-floor collaboration to resolve customer issues and improve processes.

You will lead investigations, coordinate corrective actions, and mentor teams while supporting PPAP, automotive supplier experience, and PC-DMIS CMM usage. A bachelor's in engineering and 4+ years of manufacturing quality experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in manufacturing quality engineering.
  • Experience with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) preferred.
  • Experience working with a tier 1 automotive supplier preferred.
  • Experience using PC-DMIS CMM software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer complaint investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify internal product and process issues using data analysis and inspections.
  • Collaborate on shop-floor quality improvements and coach operators.
  • Lead quality improvement projects across departments to enhance product quality.
  • Coordinate trials for new products and process changes on the shop floor.
  • Ensure compliance and ethics in quality practices across the manufacturing environment.

Job Summary:

The Quality Engineer drives innovation and enhances the Quality culture within the plant. This role involves leveraging data, process expertise, and insights from team members to identify and implement effective solutions. Responsibilities include educating, coaching, and training team members to foster a strong commitment to Quality. In addition to supporting routine Quality department functions and customer-related quality investigations, the Quality Engineer leads improvement initiatives across various departments, ensuring the quality and compliance of products and processes.

What you will be doing

Customer Complaint Investigation & Corrective Actions: Lead and support investigations into customer complaints, identify root causes, coordinate containment activities, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Issue Identification: Utilize data analysis, visual inspections, and feedback on reported concerns to identify internal product and process issues. Coordinate both short- and long-term resolutions with involved team members.
  • Product Dispositioning Engagement: Collaborate with team members to ensure proper disposition of suspect materials, providing rationale for decisions and guidance.
  • Collaborative Quality Improvement: Work directly on the shop floor with operators to integrate quality thinking and foster local problem-solving, facilitating a cultural transition.
  • Project Leadership: Lead and support various manufacturing projects aimed at enhancing product quality, equipment efficiency, workplace environment, and team members’ daily tasks.
  • Trial Coordination: Organize and oversee internal product and process trials on the shop floor.
  • Feedback-Driven Improvement: Actively listen to operator feedback to identify and resolve issues, utilizing available site resources to implement solutions.
  • Training and Coaching: Contribute to a learning organization by teaching and coaching shop floor personnel. Share technical knowledge and reactionary logic based on observations of process deviations.
  • Technical Expertise: Continuously pursue deeper knowledge in specific areas (such as extrusion, painting, fabrication) to drive innovative solutions.
  • Benchmark Engagement: Partner with colleagues across the organization to benchmark and standardize best practices.
  • Commitment to Compliance and Ethics: Uphold high standards for quality compliance and ethical behavior within the manufacturing environment, particularly in laboratories. Coach and train direct reports on compliance and ethical practices.
What will make you successful?
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field. (required)
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in manufacturing quality engineering. (required)
  • Experience with the PPAP (Production Part Approval Process). (preferred)
  • Experience working with a tier 1 automotive supplier. (preferred)
  • Experience using PC-DMIS CMM. (preferred)
