Job summary

ABB is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance activities across product, process, and manufacturing operations. You will drive continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma, own the QMS, and support ISO audits, APQP/PPAP, and CAPA processes to ensure defect prevention and high product quality.

The role collaborates with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain to reduce variation and improve FPY, scrap, warranty, and defect rates across winding, assembly, and machining operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 2+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or operational excellence.
  • Strong knowledge of core quality tools and methodologies (8D, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC).
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles; data-driven continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab) and interpreting engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality strategy and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Own and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) including ISO compliance, audits, APQP/PPAP activities, and CAPA processes.

This role ensures compliance with internal and external quality standards while improving key performance metrics such as First Pass Yield (FPY), Scrap, Warranty, Defect rates.The position supports quality activities across winding, assembly, and machining operations, partnering closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve complex problems, reduce variation, and improve overall product quality and reliability. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.You will be mainly accountable for:Lead quality strategy and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations by driving defect prevention, improving key quality metrics (FPY, DPPM, scrap, rework, warranty), and fostering a culture of operational excellence through Lean Six Sigma methodologies.Own and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) by ensuring ISO compliance, supporting audits, managing APQP/PPAP activities, leading root cause and corrective action processes, and establishing robust quality controls, documentation, and standardized processes.Provide technical quality leadership through data-driven analysis, statistical methods, supplier quality management, cross-functional collaboration, and workforce training to improve product quality, process capability, customer satisfaction, and overall business performance.Drive quality and process improvements across winding, assembly, machining, and finishing operations by enhancing defect detection and test reliability, reducing process variation, standardizing work methods, and ensuring compliance with dimensional, surface finish, electrical performance, and product quality specifications.Qualifications for the role:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 2+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or operational excellence within a manufacturing environment – Required.Strong knowledge of core quality tools and methodologies, including 8D, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and SPCExperience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, with the ability to lead data-driven continuous improvement effortsProficiency in statistical analysis and data trending (e.g., Minitab) and ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test proceduresWorking knowledge of ISO 9001 or equivalent Quality Management Systems, including audit readiness and compliance practicesPreferred Experience Includes: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma certification – Experience with winding, assembly and machining manufacturing processes – ISO auditor experience or QMS ownership – Project management experience or PMP certificationCandidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.More about us:ABB’s NEMA Motors Division is the global leading electric NEMA motors manufacturer.
