Job description

Our client is a privately held manufacturer of ruggedized electronics serving the defense and aviation markets. Its team designs and builds computers, printers, and related equipment that have to keep working in places where ordinary hardware fails, from cockpits to vehicles to field deployments. Customers include prime contractors and government programs that expect every unit to perform as promised.

The company began with engineers and operations leaders from the military and aerospace world. It remains a focused, founder influenced business where leadership is accessible and decisions move quickly. The team is small enough that your work is visible, and established enough to hold long term program relationships. The facility is in Southern California, and this role is onsite.

Real ownership. In a lean organization, the quality engineer is a trusted voice on the floor and in program reviews, not one name in a large department.

Meaningful products. The equipment you help release goes into aircraft and mission critical systems, so the stakes are high and your contribution is easy to see.

Variety. You will work across custom designed and modified products, so no two weeks look the same.

Direct access to leadership. Short reporting lines mean your recommendations get heard and acted on.

Stability and growth. A long running private company with repeat customers offers a steady footing and room to expand your scope as programs grow.

What you will do
  • Own quality planning and execution for assigned programs, from incoming parts through final shipment
  • Lead nonconformance investigations and drive corrective and preventive actions to true root cause
  • Review build documentation, work instructions, and test procedures with engineering and production
  • Perform and approve first article inspections and support customer and third party audits
  • Evaluate supplier performance, manage supplier corrective actions, and support source inspection as needed
  • Maintain calibration, traceability, and configuration control records
  • Track quality metrics and report trends to management
  • Partner with production and engineering to build quality into the process, not just inspect for it
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 or more years of quality engineering experience in electronics manufacturing, ideally in aerospace, defense, or other regulated environments
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Familiarity with IPC workmanship standards for electronic assemblies and cable and harness work
  • Hands on experience with nonconformance reports, CAPA, first article inspection, and root cause methods
  • Comfort reading drawings, schematics, and bills of material
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the confidence to hold a firm line on quality while keeping production moving
  • Ability to work onsite full time
  • Must be a U.S. person eligible to work with export controlled technical data
Nice to have
  • Exposure to airborne equipment environmental and electromagnetic qualification testing
  • Certified Quality Engineer or similar credential
  • Experience with a small or midsize manufacturer where you wore several hats
  • Familiarity with government and prime contractor quality requirements
