Job summary

Eddie Kane Steel Products is seeking a structural steel welding inspector and NDT technician to ensure quality across welded assemblies and raw materials. You will prepare customer reports, maintain calibration, and help the facility prepare for audits, upholding QMS and industry standards.

Responsibilities include welding and NDT inspections, reporting non-conformances, and supporting management to achieve audit readiness. Strong reading of drawings and communication skills are essential.

Job description

Eddie Kane Steel Products, we are an established and family-owned steel and fabrication company that has been well known in the industry for over 26 years. We have an immediate opening for a structural steel welding inspector and non-destructive testing technician looking to further their career in the steel industry. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing inspections and testing a wide range of product types, performing inspections on welds and raw materials. The selected candidate will prepare reports for customers, maintain tool calibration, help the facility prepare for audits, help enforce adherence to company QMS and documented procedures, help meet industry and customer requirements and perform other duties as directed by the Quality Engineer/Manager

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Quality Control of the layout, assembly and installation; ensuring it is maintained to the utmost standard of AISC and AWS certifications.
  • Perform Weld Inspections.
  • Perform NDT Inspections and interpret results.
  • Perform general dimensional inspections and first article inspections on cut parts and machine parts
  • Create and fill out general inspection reports.
  • Qualify Welders by conducting welding tests and evaluating performance.
  • Monitor welding activities to ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Perform inspections on received raw materials.
  • Help management to achieve and maintain AISC audit readiness.
  • Work with various tools.
  • Work with production staff and management team.
  • Create and complete inspection reports.
  • Identify and report any non-conformances or non-conforming material.
  • Maintain segregation and disposition determination of non-conforming material.
  • Help company meet industry and customer requirements. Perform other duties as directed by the Corporate Quality & Service Engineer.

Requirements:
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Weld Inspector certification (preferred)
  • ASNT NDT Level II certification in VT, MT, PT (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams
  • Strong reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to work Overtime as needed
  • Proficient at reading engineering drawings, plans and blueprints
  • Ability to interpret and explain codes, standards and other quality control requirements.
  • AISC and Structural Steel experience is a plus
  • CAD/Drafting experience (preferred)

Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
