Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Practice Specialist (CNPS) is a registered professional nurse with a master's degree, possessing advanced clinical expertise to support and promote safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care across various patient populations/services, including Family, Adult/Geriatrics, Neonatal, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Mental Health, Emergency Services, Surgery, Critical Care/Pulmonary Medicine, Digestive Health, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiovascular, Musculoskeletal, and Post-Acute.
The CNPS demonstrates advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities in their specialty to serve as a system resource, champion evidence-based practice and performance improvement, and advance nursing science. They foster interdisciplinary practice, serve as role models, engage in scholarly activities, and lead innovations in care delivery, aligning with the WellStar Nursing Professional Practice Model.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Shared Leadership
- Develop strategies encouraging inquiry and positive change, promoting nurse engagement in process improvement.
- Promote interdisciplinary partnerships and lead standardization of protocols and interventions.
- Advance nursing practice through evidence-based interventions and policy modifications.
- Participate in developing and revising clinical guidelines, policies, and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with practice standards, advocate for nursing roles, and articulate professional scope.
- Lead change initiatives, empower others, and utilize Lean principles and tools.
- Guide nursing practice using regulatory standards, research, and current theories.
Teamwork
- Foster collaboration, integrity, and communication.
- Support staff and support clinical excellence and standardization.
- Collaborate with leadership and staff to optimize patient outcomes and safety.
- Mentor and support career development, using evidence-based research and data to influence system-wide improvements.

- Improve processes supporting patient/family engagement, education, and research.
- Identify system and patient-level care modifications.
- Seek knowledge, conduct performance improvement, and promote research and evidence-based practice.

Professional Development
- Represent the organization positively, participate in professional organizations, and mentor staff and students.
Minimum Education and Certification Requirements
- Graduate degree in Nursing (MS, MSN, DNP) from an accredited institution.
- Specialty certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- Active Georgia RN license or multi-state privilege, BLS certification, and relevant specialty certification.
Experience and Skills
- At least 2 years of direct patient care experience with similar patient populations.
- Excellent communication, clinical, teaching, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of nursing theory, evidence-based practice, and research.
- Ability to work collaboratively, think systemically, and adapt to change.
