About the Job

The University of Minnesota's Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Quality Improvement Coordinator to initiate and facilitate quality improvement projects, processes, and metrics. The ideal candidate will be skilled in project management and quality improvement methodologies (lean, Six Sigma, A3, etc.) and will be expected to provide QI training/support to residents and faculty, and lead quality project initiatives and compliance within the department.

Responsibilities:
  1. Partner with the Chair of Quality Education:
    • Consult in development and implementation of a Quality Education program for residents and incoming faculty
    • Lead residents with their quality improvement projects (A3 design, set metrics, collect data, analyze, guide PDSA cycles)
  2. Partner with the chair of Quality Data:
    • Manage biweekly report process for the department on quality metrics; continually update and enhance metrics used
    • Prepare and submit quality reports to regulatory agencies as appropriate
    • Lead and manage Epic Improvement subgroup
  3. Partner with the Chair of Clinical Quality:
    • Manage day-to-day clinical incident reporting database
    • Partner with faculty to assign incidents, track completion, close review process
    • Manage the scheduling of M&M presentations, file PP with appropriate incidents in the database
    • Cross-check iCare (RL Solutions) reports with database events and update as needed
    • Complete iCare/RLS reports from database incidents as appropriate
  4. Quality Improvement activities:
    • Work with faculty to set quality goals annually, report quarterly on progress, and prepare final reports
    • Coordinate faculty projects for the Quality Consortium and lead support functions
    • Identify barriers to change and develop plans to overcome them
  5. Partner with the Vice Chair for Quality and Safety:
    • Manage scheduling for all quality and steering committee meetings; set agendas, record minutes
    • Prepare annual reports on departmental quality efforts
    • Lead monthly review meetings of incident reports involving anesthesia and assist with remedial actions
    • Attend RCA and ACA meetings involving anesthesia and ensure faculty participation
  6. Partner with the Chair of each Quality Committee:
    • Schedule quarterly meetings, set agendas, and provide minutes
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of experience in quality improvement or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience partnering with healthcare leaders on improvement projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification or process improvement training
  • Skilled in project management
