Job summary

AMERICAN POP CORN COMPANY CORP is seeking a Quality Control Technician for the 2nd shift to monitor production, packaging, and coding of finished products in a fast-paced facility.

You will perform product testing, record keeping, and defect investigations to ensure compliance with quality standards and GMP. Training on 1st shift is provided, with a 2nd shift differential after transition.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or 1 year related quality experience.
  • Food-manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Outlook and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor, test, and record production, materials, and finished product attributes.
  • Set up and monitor scales, checkweighers, metal detectors, and x-ray devices.
  • Perform product testing including popping performance, flavor, salt and color testing.
  • Maintain records in paper, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Investigate defects and segregate materials to prevent use.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Quality Control Technician (2nd Shift)

Summary:

The Quality Control Technician continuously monitors the production, packaging, and coding of finished products to meet company and customer standards. Investigating, correcting, and communicating non-standard results in a fast-paced production environment is routine.

Essential Functions:

  • Continuous monitoring, testing, and recording of the production process, raw materials, and finished product attributes through production floor observations and sample testing.
  • Set up and monitor instruments and equipment continuously before, during and after production; including but not limited to scales, checkweighers, metal detectors, and x-rays; cleaning of these devices as part of plant sanitation is required.
  • Performs product testing, including popping performance, flavor evaluations, and salt and color testing.
  • Record keeping for significant amounts of collected data including paper records, computer spreadsheets, and computer databases.
  • Investigates and reports any defects in materials to Managers of Quality, Production, Mixing, & Maintenance.
  • Segregates defective or suspect raw materials and finished products to prohibit their use.
  • And other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one-year related experience in a quality role is required. Experience in a food-manufacturing environment is preferred. Must be proficient with Excel, Outlook, & Word.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong attention to detail is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to communicate with employees and management. A strong analytical mindset will help identify areas for process improvement as well as work to maintain department efficiencies. This role requires a positive attitude focusing on teamwork to collaborate with other team members to achieve production goals. The ability to interpret written, oral, and schedule instructions is a must. Ability to recognize and investigate the causes of suspect mechanical failures, and to recognize the potential effect they may have on food safety, regulatory, and quality standards of the company required.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, regulations, correspondence and memos in English. Ability to write both simple and detailed correspondence. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to effectively present information and communicate thoughts, ideas, desires and problems to fellow employees, in both individual and small groups situations, management and other employees of the company on a one-to-one or group basis.

The work environment is in a manufacturing facility. The environment is often dynamic and collaborative, with collaboration being essential in this role. Employees will contribute to overall production goals, with employees supporting the efficiency and effectiveness of the manufacturing processes. The manufacturing facility involves hands-on tasks, machinery operation, and adherence to GMPs. This setting requires attention to detail, adherence to protocols, and the ability to adapt to the demands of the company. Working hours outside of standard office hours will be required.

This position requires a combination of sitting and standing throughout the workday. You will need to engage in tasks that involve sitting at a desk for data entry and analysis. You will also need to engage in tasks that require periods of standing and mobility. This role requires twisting, bending, and reaching during tasks. May be occasional lifting, typically not to exceed 20 pounds.

Training & Shift Differential

All new Hires will be required to train on 1st shift for approximately six (6) months. After training is completed and the employee transitions to 2nd shift, a $1.50 per hour shift differential will apply.
