Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for park-wide quality control inspections and audits in areas such as dimensional conformity, fiberglass laminate construction (FRP)/carbon fiber composites, material specification conformity, mechanical and structural non-destructive testing (NDT), process specification conformity, receiving, and welding. Provides accurate inspection reports, facilitates problem resolution, and offers input to Engineering and Management during problem-solving or project planning. Performs all duties in accordance with Universal Orlando and Technical Services Engineering/Quality Control policies and procedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Inspect ride and show elements including ride tracks, vehicles, and related components to ensure quality, workmanship, and conformity to specifications and codes, including final products and in-process items. Includes inspection of welding setups, defect excavation, final welding using visual, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant methods, dimensional accuracy of received parts, material conformity, fiberglass/carbon fiber assemblies, and NDT of structural and mechanical equipment.
  2. Provide detailed and timely written inspection reports.
  3. Communicate clearly and accurately with UO engineering.
  4. Research relevant information from Document Control, vendors, and online sources related to inspections.
  5. Participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities per UO policies and procedures.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school or associate degree in quality or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-3 years in a technical field required.
  • At least 1 year experience with major ride and show attractions, including inspection of structural, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
  • At least 1 year experience or documented proof in performing NDT inspections (VT, MT, PT).
  • Experience with machine and weld shop fabrication and quality control inspection for mechanical drawings preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Level II certification in Magnetic Particle Test (MT) per ASNT required.
  • Level II certification in Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT) per ASNT required.
  • UO in-house Certified Composite Inspector Level II required.
  • NAARSO Level 1 certification required within the first year.
  • Industrial rope access certification preferred.
