Job summary

The Shelly Company, a CRH company, is seeking a Quality Control Intern to gain hands-on experience in an integrated materials and paving operation in Ohio. You will learn HMA production, QC testing, density control, and testing procedures while supporting field and lab activities.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in Mining Engineering, Construction Management or related programs, with ability to read English, perform basic math and solve practical problems; willingness to travel and work

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and working toward an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Construction Management, or other industry related degree program.
• Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in specifications, reports, manuals and regulations.
• Ability to perform intermediate mathematical skills, including basic algebra, geometry, and shop math.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Responsibilities

• Receive detailed understanding of the HMA production processes.
• Learn Quality Control methods and reporting procedures.
• Learn entire paving process and density control.
• Work with QC Technicians to understand smoothness determinations and IRI reporting.
• Learn to conduct and test equipment calibrations.
• Understand aggregate processing and quality conformance.
• Assist with testing materials safely and efficiently.
• Identify and become familiar with various mix specifications requirements.
• Test materials to determine weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation of mix components.
• Communicate test results with technicians and paving personnel.
