Quality Auditor / Watch & Protect Technician

Job Summary: An experienced technician who performs Quality Audits on completed Locating Tickets and is responsible for a variety of tasks related to utility protection for a variety of utility clients. The Watch & Protect technician will be responsible for overseeing contractors digging on and around utility facilities, and monitoring excavation to help prevent damage from being done to critical facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Quality Audits
    • On-site audits of completed work should include inspection of locate marks and marking standards for accuracy.
    • E-Sketch documentation
    • Billing and status codes used
    • Screen capture and photo documentation review
    • Scope of the ticket’s work area completed; focus on accuracy and marking standards while performing the audit.
    • Any serious concerns found during audits should be communicated to the supervisor immediately and addressed while on site.
  • Watch & Protect
    • Compares real-world conditions to the record documentation to identify errors and omissions.
    • Verifies location of all client facilities within specified dig extents.
    • Watches and protects client facilities within a given area as directed by the client.
    • Understands contractor’s means and methods for subsurface installations.
    • Responsible for monitoring and providing surveillance of critical infrastructure where excavations are known to be taking place or will be taking place soon.
    • Contacts excavators and schedules with them to monitor critical excavation.
    • Monitors excavations near critical infrastructure to prevent damage to client facilities.
    • Locates and marks underground facilities using various industry tools, standards and methods, including the use of locating devices and utility maps.
    • Performs ticket audits to ensure locators are accurately locating facilities and following proper marking procedures.

Employment Requirements

In order to obtain employment with GridHawk LLC, candidates must complete a background check. The company policy requires no violations within the last five years. Candidates must also take and pass a DOT drug test.

All employees are assigned proper technology and work vehicles to perform all work-related duties.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • At least two years of experience in the locating industry
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong reading skills to interpret prints
  • Multiple years of locating and pipeline technician experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work smoothly with citizens, company staff, contractor representatives, and customers
  • Good organizational skills to handle many varied tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices
  • Experience with construction and installation of below-grade infrastructure and basic maintenance of industry-standard locating equipment
  • Experience working within and utilizing existing utility standard designs
  • Experience with complex urban underground utility infrastructure and serving as firm/client liaison
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others
Physical Requirements
  • Capable of moving around on construction work sites, public streets, and parkways
  • Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or sit for extended periods
  • Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various measurement, locating, and testing instruments

  • Work safely outside in all weather conditions year-round
  • Occasional work in excavations areas and roadways
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration

Job Type

Full-time, hourly. Pay varies based on experience.

Benefits

All employees are eligible to receive some form of company benefits. All benefits are available to regular, full-time employees who maintain an average of 30 hours worked per week. Qualifying employees can enjoy paid holidays and paid time off. Health benefits will be available the first of the next month following 30 days of employment. The 401(k) and matching program are available after the 90-day introductory period.
