D-J Engineering, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Portable Metrology Operator to join our Quality Assurance team on 2nd Shift. You will operate portable 3D inspection equipment to perform dimensional inspections on aerospace components and tooling.

Responsibilities include setting up equipment, running pre-written routines, interpreting results, and ensuring compliance with drawings and GD&T. This role requires strong precision and documentation skills and offers overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of portable metrology experience in aerospace QA.
• Experience with Verisurf or PC-DMIS Portable preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and GD&T callouts.

Job description

D-J Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented Portable Metrology Operator to join our Quality Assurance team on 2nd Shift. In this role, you will operate portable 3D inspection equipment—such as Leica Absolute Trackers and/or Romer Articulated Arms—using pre-established measurement routines and alignments to perform dimensional inspections on precision aerospace components, large assemblies, and tooling.

Shift:

Note: This is primarily an operator position focused on executing existing inspection routines, setting up equipment, and verifying dimensional compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Setup, align, and operate portable inspection equipment (Leica Absolute Tracker, Romer Arm, or similar portable CMMs) using pre-written routines.
• Make minor routine edits, alignments, or setup adjustments as needed to ensure smooth operation and accurate measurements.
• Perform precision dimensional inspections on complex machined, fabricated, and large-scale aerospace parts and assemblies.
• Troubleshooting & Product Acceptance: Proactively troubleshoot inspection discrepancies and utilize all available customer engineering documentation (blueprints, specifications, model data, and acceptance standards) to identify opportunities for valid product acceptance.
• Interpret inspection results, point cloud data, printouts, and reports to determine part compliance.
• Perform manual inspections using standard precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges).
• Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming material following standard operating procedures.
• Maintain clean work areas, care for delicate optics/trackers/reflectors, and adhere to all safety and AS9100 quality assurance standards.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 1–3 years of experience operating portable metrology equipment (Leica Laser Trackers, Romer Arms, Faro Arms, or portable CMMs) in a quality assurance environment (aerospace experience preferred).
• Technical Skills: Experience running pre-written metrology software routines (e.g., Verisurf or PC-DMIS Portable); basic knowledge of alignment routines to perform minor edits is a strong plus.
• Blueprints & Documentation: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, customer specifications, model-based definition (MBD), and standard GD&T callouts.
• Hand Tools: Proficiency with standard shop floor measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, indicators, depth gauges).
• Schedule & Availability: Ability to work Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM, with flexibility for extra hours during peak production demand.
• Attention to Detail: Strong record-keeping skills and high precision in documenting inspection results.
