Job summary

Galaxy Technologies in Winfield, KS, is seeking a detail-oriented QA Inspector – Portable Metrology to support our Quality team on an off-shift basis in a precision aerospace manufacturing environment. You will focus on dimensional inspection using portable measurement equipment.

The ideal candidate will have experience with dimensional inspection, GD&T, and reading engineering drawings. Familiarity with portable CMMs, laser trackers, or Verisurf is a plus; however, strong dimensional inspection

Qualifications

• Experience in dimensional inspection, precision machining, manufacturing, or metrology preferred.
• Experience operating portable measurement arms, laser trackers, CMMs, or other coordinate measurement equipment is preferred.
• Experience with metrology software such as Verisurf, PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, SpatialAnalyzer, or similar is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional inspection of parts, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures using portable measurement arms and laser trackers.
• Set up and operate portable metrology equipment (FARO, Hexagon) and laser trackers.
• Collect measurement data using Verisurf software and document results.
• Interpret drawings and GD&T requirements.
• Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final inspections as required.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and communicate nonconformances.

Salary Range: $20.00 To $22.00 Annually

We are seeking a detail-oriented QA Inspector – Portable Metrology to support our Quality team on an off-shift basis in a precision aerospace manufacturing environment. This position will primarily focus on dimensional inspection using portable measurement equipment, including articulated measurement arms and laser trackers, along with general inspection and Quality support activities.

Shift Options Include: 8-hour shifts beginning at 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., or 4:00 p.m. A 4/10 work schedule is also available.

The ideal candidate will have experience with dimensional inspection, engineering drawings, and GD&T. Experience with portable CMMs, laser trackers, or Verisurf is preferred; however, candidates with strong dimensional inspection or machining backgrounds and the ability to learn advanced metrology equipment will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional inspection of manufactured parts, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures using portable measurement arms and laser trackers.
• Set up and operate portable metrology equipment, including FARO and Hexagon measurement arms and FARO/Leica laser trackers.
• Perform inspections and collect measurement data using Verisurf software.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, final, and other dimensional inspections as required.
• Accurately document inspection results and maintain required inspection and Quality records.
• Identify and communicate dimensional nonconformances to Quality, Engineering, and Production personnel.
• Support Production with dimensional verification and inspection needs during the assigned off shift.
• Perform general bench inspection using standard measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, indicators, and other inspection tools.
• Assist with First Article Inspection (FAI) and AS9102 inspection requirements as needed.
• Maintain accurate and organized Quality documentation in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements.
• Work independently on the assigned shift while effectively communicating inspection results, concerns, and outstanding issues to Quality leadership and other shifts.

This is a hands-on Quality position primarily focused on portable dimensional inspection and providing independent Quality support to manufacturing operations during an off shift.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in dimensional inspection, precision machining, manufacturing, or metrology preferred.
• Experience operating portable measurement arms, laser trackers, CMMs, or other coordinate measurement equipment is preferred.
• Experience with Verisurf, PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, SpatialAnalyzer, or similar metrology software is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
• Working knowledge of GD&T preferred.
• Ability to use standard precision measurement equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to accurately document inspection results.
• Ability to work independently and make sound inspection decisions with limited direct supervision.
• Aerospace manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
• Willingness and ability to work the designated off-shift schedule.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a precision machine shop and manufacturing environment.

Exposure to noise, oil, metal shavings, and other conditions typical of machining and manufacturing operations.

Frequent standing and walking throughout the manufacturing facility.

Position requires regular setup and movement of portable metrology equipment around large parts, tooling, machines, and assemblies.

Occasional lifting to 30 lbs.

Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
