What You'll Do
- Oversees all product QC testing and related activities
- Provides tools and resources to foster continuous improvement and employee development in the QA Lab
- Supports continuous process improvements plant-wide, including product quality, processes, and cost efficiency
- Supports plant-wide inventory control, waste reduction, and management of physical and spectrometer lab
- Advocates sound business practices to support mill operational processes for quality production within budget
- Maintains and reviews lab samples, product chemistry, and operational processes to ensure quality
- Ensures timely and accurate test results from the lab
- Handles customer complaints, assesses issues, and implements corrective actions
- Maintains and calibrates lab equipment for reliability and accuracy
- Implements quality systems, including hold/release decisions and retesting
- Provides training to develop employees in quality processes
- Serves as the customer interface for quality issues
- Reviews customer specifications for product application
- Maintains certifications from accreditation agencies (NTPEP, ISO, ABS, State DOTs)
- Participates in industry meetings (ACI, ASTM, CRSI) and serves on committees as needed
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff, including hiring, discipline, development, and performance reviews
- Ensures compliance with employment laws and regulations
- Reviews and approves employee hours via Kronos system
- Demonstrates passion for customer service and teamwork
- Adapts to change positively and productively
What You'll Need
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience
- Minimum 2 years steel mill experience preferred
- Participates in safety programs and upholds safety culture
- Proficient in computer use (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Experience with measuring devices (tapes, micrometers, calipers)
- Ability to multi-task, follow, and give directions
- Strong team and safety orientation
- Ability to follow instructions timely and safely
- Understanding of standards and procedures
Your Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Material Science preferred
