Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Irvine, CA is seeking a Quality Assurance Clerk for a split shift to support the Coastal Star Crisis Stabilization Unit. The role focuses on intake, data entry, and QA tasks to ensure accuracy and compliance within DMH and EMR systems.

You will verify Medi-Cal eligibility, manage records, assist with billing aspects, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Ideal candidates bring at least a year of clerical experience and a willingness to obtain

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year unit clerk or clerical experience in inpatient or outpatient setting.
• QA/TQM experience in social services preferred.
• Billing experience.
• Valid California Driver’s License with clean driving record.
• Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
• First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide variety of business and operations tasks including gathering, processing and tracking new client information for intake, treatment and discharge.
• Facilitate verification of Medi-Cal eligibility and open new client records in EMR and IBHIS as assigned.
• Ensure all records comply with agency policy and DMH requirements.
• Oversee facility billing aspects as needed, including vendor billing and petty cash.
• Assist in quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement efforts.

What You Bring to SBHG (Qualifications)

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Experience & Skills: One (1) year unit clerk or clerical experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting. Quality assurance experience within the social services field, or related experiences in dealing with QA/TQM concepts and procedures preferred.
• Billing experience
• Compliance & Safety: Valid California Driver’s License with an eligible driving record per company policy. Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. First Aid certification

How you will make a difference

This position performs a wide variety of business and operations tasks including gathering, processing and tracking new client information for intake, treatment and discharge. This position will facilitate the verification of Medi-Cal eligibility as required and open new client records in EMR and IBHIS as assigned. This position will also ensure that all aspects of the record are in keeping with agency policy and DMH requirements. Activities performed can be time sensitive with expectations of frequent reporting of progress along with thorough oversight for accuracy. Regular interaction with all staff members, physicians, and outside agencies is expected. Manages/oversees facility billing aspects as needed, including but not limited to vendor billing and facility petty cash. This position has responsibility for gathering and analyzing agency data and assisting in the agency’s quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement efforts. In addition, the Unit & Quality Assurance Clerk’s duties will include but are not limited to ensuring that the chart order is maintained, entering data into the County data collection sites and other quality improvement tasks as assigned.

Division/Program Overview

• Program: The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a place where people experiencing a mental health crisis can go to be stabilized. These facilities operate 24/7 to provide crisis stabilization.
• Population Served: Up to 16 adults (ages 18 and up) and 8 adolescents (ages 13 to 17).
• Facility & Setting: Can be compared to an Urgent Care Center where people often go for a medical emergency instead of going to the hospital ER. Patients may stay up to 23 hours.
• Clinical Services: Provides important services to those in need of immediate crisis intervention and stabilization. Designed to prevent psychiatric hospitalizations.
• Length of Stay: stay of up to 23 hours
• Skills & Transition: The CSU will help clients to stabilize and will also provide referrals to other needed services. Transportation is provided as needed.
