Job summary

Searchability is seeking a QAD Solution Engineer to deliver hands-on development, customization and support of an enterprise QAD ERP system using Progress 4GL/ABL and SQL. You will troubleshoot data issues, support SAP integrations and help maintain data pipelines.

The role requires 3–6 years of QAD ERP experience, strong Progress/OpenEdge and SQL skills, and the ability to provide L2/L3 support. This is a fully remote UK-based engagement with BPSS clearance needs.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of technical experience with QAD ERP.
• Strong Progress 4GL/ABL and SQL skills.
• Experience integrating QAD with SAP via IDocs, RFCs or APIs.
• L2/L3 support, testing, and documentation experience.

Responsibilities

• Developing and customizing QAD ERP applications using Progress 4GL/ABL to meet business requirements.
• Maintaining Progress OpenEdge and SQL databases, including querying and routine maintenance.
• Supporting data pipelines and middleware integrations between QAD and SAP.
• Providing Level 2/3 technical support for bugs, data discrepancies and system failures.
• Writing and optimizing SQL queries, scripts and views for reporting and data extraction.
• Creating technical test plans and supporting UAT.
• Producing technical specifications, code documentation and database schemas.
• Collaborating with analysts and SAP teams to map data fields and resolve integration issues.
• Supporting patches, upgrades and deployments with the Solution Lead.

• £555 per day via Umbrella
• Fully remote – UK-based
• Initial contract until 31 December 2027

ABOUT THE CLIENT

A leading organisation is seeking an experienced QAD Solution Engineer to support the development, maintenance and technical support of its enterprise ERP environment. This is an opportunity to work on business-critical QAD applications, delivering technical enhancements, resolving complex system issues and supporting integrations with SAP. We are looking for a hands-on technical specialist with strong Progress 4GL/ABL and SQL skills to help maintain system performance and reliability.

THE QAD SOLUTION ENGINEER ROLE:

As a QAD Solution Engineer, you will be responsible for the hands-on development, customisation, maintenance and technical support of an enterprise QAD ERP system. You will use Progress 4GL/ABL and SQL to deliver enhancements, troubleshoot issues and support integrations with SAP.

Responsibilities will include:

• Developing and customising QAD ERP applications using Progress 4GL/ABL to meet business requirements.
• Maintaining Progress OpenEdge and SQL databases, including querying, routine maintenance and schema changes.
• Supporting and troubleshooting data pipelines and middleware integrations between QAD and SAP.
• Providing Level 2/3 technical support for application bugs, data discrepancies and system failures.
• Writing and optimising SQL queries, scripts and views for operational reporting and data extraction.
• Creating technical test plans, executing unit tests and supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Producing and maintaining technical specifications, code documentation and database schemas.
• Working with business analysts and SAP teams to map data fields and resolve integration issues.
• Supporting system patches, upgrades and code deployments alongside the Solution Lead.

QAD SOLUTION ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• 3–6 years of technical experience with QAD ERP, covering modules such as Manufacturing, Distribution or Finance.
• Strong programming experience in Progress 4GL/ABL, including character-based and GUI/CHUI environments.
• Experience working with Progress OpenEdge databases.
• Good SQL skills, including writing queries and working with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle.
• Understanding of database connections and data extraction.
• Basic knowledge of SAP architecture and integration methods, including IDocs, RFCs or API web services.
• Experience providing L2/L3 technical support and troubleshooting application issues.
• Experience with technical testing, documentation and deployment support.

Desirable experience:

• Reporting tools such as Cyberquery, QAD Browsers or Excel/SQL-based extraction tools.
• Experience supporting integrations between QAD and SAP.
• Experience supporting ERP upgrades, patches and application enhancements.
