Job summary

Current is seeking a Lead QA Engineer to own testing strategy and quality standards across multiple projects. You will mentor engineers, balance manual and automated testing, and act as the go-to voice on quality while driving risk-based decisions across CMS and SaaS environments.

The role emphasizes leadership (60%) and craft (40%), with a strong focus on communication, automation, and scalable QA processes within a remote US agency.

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of experience in software quality assurance or testing.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright for building and maintaining automated test suites.
• Experience using BrowserStack (or comparable cross-browser testing) to validate compatibility.
• Strong manual, exploratory, and regression testing skills with good judgement on automation.
• Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete test plans and acceptance criteria.
• Strong Jira practice: writing tickets clearly, using linking for traceability, and identifying workflow friction.
• Experience testing across CMS or SaaS environments with diverse stacks.
• Excellent communication to present testing tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience leading testing on large or multi-phase projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead test strategy and quality standards across multiple projects, deciding on automation vs manual/exploratory testing.
• Build and maintain automated test suites in Playwright; use BrowserStack for cross-browser validation.
• Define and run deep manual and exploratory testing for high-change areas.
• Translate requirements into concrete test plans and acceptance criteria; identify gaps early.
• Act as the technical point of contact for quality with stakeholders; communicate risk and timelines.
• Write clear defect reports in Jira and drive fixes to resolution with retests.
• Use Jira linking and epics to keep testing work traceable and surface workflow friction.
• Mentor QA engineers in manual and automation practices; raise the team’s testing bar.
• Step into projects at any phase to assess quality risk and propose concrete paths forward.
• Stay ahead of testing tools and practices; advocate for effective AI tool use where appropriate.
