Project Support Services (PSS) is seeking an experienced QA/QC Technical Reviewer
- Structuralto support the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Facilities
Services Division.
This position reviews structural plans and specifications for school construction projects,
helps maintain LAUSD’s design standards, and provides technical guidance to project
teams. The ideal candidate has extensive structural engineering experience with K-12
facilities and can turn complex technical findings into clear, actionable comments.
Position Overview
The QA/QC Technical Reviewer - Structural will review proposed structural plans and
specifications prepared by District personnel, consultants, and commissioned architects
and engineers. The reviewer will evaluate the quality and completeness of structural
design documents, their coordination with other disciplines, and their adherence to
District standards and applicable requirements.
The reviewer will also contribute lessons learned and technical research to LAUSD’s
design guidelines, specifications, standard drawings, and policies for educational
facilities.
- Review structural plans, specifications, and related documents for proposed construction projects.
- Prepare detailed comments on structural design quality, documentation coordination with other disciplines, and adherence to District standards.
- Perform QA/QC, constructability, and peer reviews of projects in design and construction.
- Review proposed product substitutions and deviations from District standards.
- Respond to structural technical questions from Owner Authorized Representatives, Inspectors, Design Managers, and architecture and engineering teams.
- Recommend updates to structural standards, specifications, design guidelines, and standard drawings based on project reviews, research, and lessons learned.
- Help improve the quality, safety, economy, maintenance, and operation of school facilities.
- Coordinate with District design and technical support teams, consultants, architects, engineers, and public agency representatives.
- Prepare clear reports, technical descriptions, and written review comments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Experience
- Ten (10) years of full-time, paid professional experience in the structural engineering planning, design, and construction of educational facilities.
Required Education
- A bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field from a recognized college or university.
- Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Required License
- A valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of architectural and structural engineering practices for K-12 school repairs, modernizations, and new construction.
- Ability to prepare and review structural specifications, standards, and related contract documents.
- Knowledge of applicable state and local building codes, construction standards, and school facility requirements, including California Building Code and Division of the State Architect requirements.
- Understanding of structural systems, building materials, and construction costs.
- Familiarity with school facility sustainability requirements, including LEED and Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS), and with commissioning processes and documentation.
- Ability to maintain close attention to complex plans and specifications and provide clear, detailed comments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical teams and public agency representatives.
Preferred License
- A valid California Structural Engineer (SE) license issued by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
