Job Summary

To perform and report laboratory analyses in the quality assurance laboratory, in accordance with established laboratory practices and laboratory work instructions.

This position is on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all laboratory equipment in accordance with work instructions assignments, complete report forms (such as analysis reports, calibration logs, and wastewater reports) and maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation.
  • Run tests per methods.
  • Calibrate equipment.
  • Handle reagents and waste in accordance with lab hygiene program and work instructions.
  • Purchase items within the MRO system as required.
  • Analyze and report all in-process and finished product batches.
  • Report any deviations from internal acceptance limits and compile data obtained from analysis performed in the quality assurance laboratory, for use in the creation of certificates of analysis and all SQC charting.
  • Perform and report calibrations of laboratory equipment as described in work instructions and document any equipment failures.
  • Routine purchasing of reagents and hard goods used in the Polyols' lab and maintaining a reasonable inventory.
  • Proper label and storage of reagents, and the labelling handling and storage of waste reagents.
  • Label and storage of samples and sample retains including proper HMIS labelling following hazard communication program guidelines.
  • Follow manager directions with minimum supervision, requesting clarification when needed.
  • Perform assignments in conformance with Perstorp Polyols' EHSQ system standards, complying with safe operating practices, lab safety rules, and plant safety rules.
  • Maintain neat and orderly work areas.
  • Responsible to achieve the Q A Lab Technician I objectives agreed annually.
  • Support and actively participate in the Site’s development along the Perstorp Careway.
  • Lead by example within the area of responsible care.
  • Comply with the responsible care minimum requirements.
  • Ensure conformance and follow all company policies & procedures and all site health, safety, security, and environmental rules.
  • Actively participate in EHSQ programs (i.e., take care observations, safety training, toolbox talks, incident reporting & investigation and safety walks).
  • Perform/support other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management and support other employees as necessary in a team effort.

Education And Experience

  • Associate degree in Chemistry or related science degree required.
  • Experience (> 1 years) in a manufacturing laboratory environment preferred.
  • Training in EHSQ Management Systems procedures and work instruction, which pertain to position functions.
  • Training in OSHA hazard communication, hazardous waste, and good lab practice.
  • Basic typing skills and computer knowledge for interfacing with analytical instrumentation, SAP system, and various computer-based software systems.

Schedule

Lab Technicians follow a 4 day, 10-hour work week. Perstorp is a 24/7/365 operation which requires weekend & holiday shifts. Overtime as business needs dictate.

Work Environment

  • Primarily requires working indoors in a manufacturing laboratory with environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Routine exposure to manufacturing laboratory environment including elements such as odor/unpleasant smells, loud noises, dirt, dust, vibrations, heat, cold or chemicals.
  • Routinely use office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners and other typical office and lab equipment. Require the use of electronic mail and ERP systems.
  • Routinely in contact with others (face to face, by telephone, computer or otherwise).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform in an active laboratory environment, including the ability to complete laboratory tests, paperwork, work on a computer, handle filing and office equipment and change activities frequently.
  • Maintain a stationary position (sit, stand) and walk, move, climb, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch, climb or balance, use of hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a counter/desk and working on a computer.
  • Mobility required to access all areas on site.
  • Ability to use all channels of communication (i.e., read/write/speak/hear).
  • Vision sufficient to perform above-described tasks with or without correction.
  • Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Comply and pass site regulations for PPE and clearances (i.e., annual physical, Respirator Fit Test, FRC clothing, etc.).
