Job summary

Owen Industries, through its PVS Structures division in Carter Lake, IA, seeks a Quality Assurance Coating Inspector for structural fabrication. The role focuses on ensuring coating integrity on fabricated steel, with responsibilities spanning environmental monitoring and thickness inspections, reporting, and NCR initiation.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of coating inspection experience, strong blueprint reading skills, and familiarity with zinc, epoxy and urethane systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of industrial coating inspection experience.
• Proficiency in blueprint reading.
• Familiarity with coating systems including zincs, epoxies and urethanes.
• AMPP/NACE Level 1 certification strongly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct random inspections of fabricated structural steel products to verify coating specs.
• Monitor air temperature, dew point and RH in coating environment.
• Inspect wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT).
• Verify calibration of paint lines and inspector equipment daily.
• Prepare accurate inspector reports and NCRs as required.
• Support continuous quality improvement and reduce coating-related rework.

That level of certification demands an equally high standard of coating inspection, and we have an immediate opening for a Quality Assurance Coating Inspector to join our structural fabrication division.

The Details

• Pay: Competitive — based on experience [TBD]
• Schedule: 1 st Shift
• Location: Carter Lake, IA — near downtown Omaha
• Reports to: Chief Inspector, Structural Fabrication

What You'll Do

• Conduct random inspections of fabricated structural steel products to verify compliance with industry and project coating specifications
• Monitor air temperature, dew point, and relative humidity of the coating environment prior to and during application
• Inspect wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) using specific inspection tools and techniques
• Verify that all paint lines and inspector equipment are calibrated and checked daily
• Prepare accurate and thorough inspector reports on a daily basis
• Initiate internal non-conformance reports (NCRs) as required
• Assist in the continuous quality improvement process and help reduce costs associated with coating errors and rework
• Assist in developing processes and procedures to improve productivity while maintaining quality standards
• Carry out all duties in accordance with AISC, ISO, and NQA-1 standards and company procedures

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 1 year of industrial coating inspection experience — this is a requirement
• Proficiency in blueprint reading
• Familiarity with sophisticated paint systems including zincs, epoxies, and urethanes
• AMPP/NACE Level 1 certification strongly preferred — not required for the right candidate
• Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks independently in a fast-paced, changing production environment
• Strong technical skills and knowledge of coating processes
• Clear, professional communication skills — written and verbal
• Team player with a leadership mindset — you set the standard others follow
• Detail-oriented and committed to doing the job right the first time
