We are hiring a QA Automation Engineer for our client in downtown Boston, to support an IT QA automation initiative. The role focuses on defining, reviewing, assessing and implementing an automation framework for testing Windows UI applications. You will work with QA and application engineering teams to select tools and design scalable automation solutions that streamline test execution and improve QA processes. The role also includes extending automation to web-based applications and integrating with test management and tracking tools. The ideal candidate has expertise implementing and supporting automation frameworks (especially Windows UI), scripting automated tests for Windows and web applications, and applying QA best practices, strategies, methods, tools and metrics.
Required Skills and Experience
- SaaS/cloud application testing with a strong understanding of infrastructure
- Implementing and supporting automation frameworks to improve test effectiveness
- Developing and implementing UI automation for Windows and web applications
- Programming or scripting languages such as C#, .NET, JavaScript, Python and PowerShell
- Relational databases and writing SQL queries
- Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure

- Delivering testing innovations for continuous improvement and efficiency

Responsibilities
- Help define the technology stack, infrastructure design and testing approach, including scoping and specifying tool requirements for an effective automation framework
- Collaborate with QA and application team members to advance automation strategies for the project
- Evaluate proposed solutions for a modular, scalable automation framework for Windows UI applications that can extend to web UI applications
- Define and establish core framework components and integrations: test case management, object repository, logging, reporting, data-driven testing and configuration management
- Help drive the evaluation of automation tools and libraries, building POCs and ROI analyses to select the best software stack for current and future needs
- Define adoption criteria and best practices for tool usage and test design
- Develop reliable, maintainable functional, regression and smoke test suites
- Implement parallel execution strategies and optimize for speed and stability
- Define and enforce coding standards and adherence to QA best practices
- Establish error management strategies, deterministic test data and environment controls
- Integrate with build pipelines (where applicable) and test management tools
- Automate test reporting and publish actionable metrics
- Partner with developers, QA analysts and product owners to define testable requirements, acceptance criteria and risk-based coverage
- Extend the framework to support web UI automation (e.g., Selenium)
- Assess web load testing tools as an extension of automation
- Enable unified reporting and artifact management across test suite types
- Produce clear documentation, samples and onboarding materials, and train QA engineers and stakeholders
- Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement of QA
Work Arrangement
Hybrid: must be able to work onsite in Boston, MA three or more days per week Remote work on the remaining days, subject to client remote work policy Typical schedule is 8 hours per day between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday, up to 40 hours per week Pay $72 - $78 / hour W2 #INDIT
