Job summary

CEIS seeks an experienced Safety Generalist with an active DOE Q clearance to support LANL construction, maintenance, and operations. The role requires extensive field interaction with construction teams, subcontractors, and project leadership in high-hazard environments.

The ideal candidate will have broad safety experience across multiple scopes of work, perform hazard recognition, and help develop practical, safe work plans while partnering with project teams to keep work progressing safely.

Qualifications

• Active DOE Q clearance required.
• Significant experience in construction safety or related EHS field.
• Experience in large-scale construction, nuclear or other high-hazard environments.
• Broad knowledge of OSHA construction and general-industry safety requirements.
• Field oversight of contractors across multiple crafts.
• Strong hazard recognition, risk assessment, and work planning.
• Ability to spend most of the day in the field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate with craft personnel, supervision, and leadership.
• Collaborative, solutions-oriented professional with independent work ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide field-based safety oversight for construction, maintenance, infrastructure, facility, and operations.
• Perform routine field observations and safety assessments to identify hazards and verify controls.
• Oversee safety of contractors and subcontractors across LANL sites.
• Participate in pre-job planning, hazard analyses, safety meetings, and work-package reviews.
• Evaluate hazards in excavation, fall protection, confined spaces, cranes/rigging, and electrical work.
• Review safety documentation, permits, and hazard-control measures.
• Engage with craft personnel and supervision to resolve safety concerns in the field.
• Investigate incidents and follow up on corrective actions.
• Document observations, deficiencies, and safety performance.
• Support OSHA/DOE LANL safety requirements and project-specific rules.
• Participate in safety briefings, stand-downs, and workforce training as required.
• Maintain strong field presence and build relations with subcontractors, management, and client reps.
• Exercise stop-work authority when immediate risk is present.
• Help teams identify practical solutions that protect personnel and support project success.
