Job summary

Siemens is seeking a Python Backend Developer Intern for the Energy Flexibility Platform in Princeton, NJ. You will build and maintain REST APIs, connect data sources, and collaborate with a small, interdisciplinary team to ship features to customers.

You’ll work through the full engineering lifecycle, including tests, OpenAPI specs, and CI/CD on AWS. The internship spans 3–6 months, on-site in Princeton, with mentorship from senior engineers and opportunities to contribute to real-world energy

Qualifications

• Student enrolled in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related program.
• Strong Python fundamentals including functions, classes, type hints, and exception handling.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL, including schema design and queries.
• Understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, status codes, headers, and OpenAPI specs.
• Experience with Git, unit testing, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in English, written and spoken.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain REST API endpoints for a cloud-based energy flexibility platform using Python.
• Integrate with third-party REST APIs, including authentication, retries, and error handling.
• Write and expand automated unit and integration tests to improve code quality and coverage.
• Keep OpenAPI specifications and technical documentation in sync with implementation.
• Implement database schema changes and migrations under guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in code reviews and team discussions on design and implementation.
