Job summary

Optimal's Plant Vehicle Team Engineer at the Chicago Assembly Plant collaborates with operations to own the electrical system responsibilities for the Explorer and Aviator lines, including module software and the electrical distribution system. You will tackle design and quality issues by defining root causes and guiding containment actions with the right skill teams.

The role requires hands-on wiring design experience, familiarity with Teamcenter/CAD tools, and knowledge of SAE/USCAR wiring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new assignments.

Job description

Position Description:

The Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineer is a member Product Development Team that is co-located at Chicago Assembly Plant (CAP) along with the operations team.
EE&S (Electrical, Electronics, and Systems) PVT Engineers are the 1st line of defense with regards to Quality for the Explorer and Aviator vehicle lines. The EE&S PVT is responsible for the complete electrical system of the vehicle including both module software & the electrical distribution system
Experience or background in all functional engineering areas listed is not required but willingness to learn/adapt for new assignments is ideal
Candidate will lead resolution of design and quality issues by properly defining the issues and determining initial root cause of concern (design/supplier/manufacturing). Candidate will then lead resolution with the proper skill team after root cause is identified to ensure containment activity is taken to protect our customers

Skills Required:

Electrical Wiring
Candidate should be familiar with developing and releasing wiring harness designs for a vehicle electrical distribution system (EDS). Resolving DFMEA/design-for-manufacturing issues with harness suppliers, having hands-on experience with OEM wiring design tools (e.g., CATIA/Capital, or equivalent schematic-capture and harness-design software), knowledge of SAE/USCAR wiring standards, and ability to read and mark up 2D/3D wiring diagrams and geometry
Team Center Familiarity with Teamcenter/CAD tools for managing engineering change (EC) processes, checking in/out CAD and wiring data, navigating BOM structures, and tracking release status of harness/EDS components.

Experience Required:

System engineering, root cause analysis, quality improvement, low voltage wiring
Functional knowledge of vehicle electrical system or functional knowledge of vehicle wiring system
