Purina Feed Sales

We're hiring a Feed Sales Representative - Purina Animal Nutrition to focus primarily on Beef Cattle & Equine feed sales with our partner co-op in Marshfield, WI territory. This role involves selling feed and related products to optimize the cooperative/dealer's market share and efficiency, helping achieve their mission and goals.

This is a remote (virtual) field-based sales position that must be located within the geographic territory of Marshfield, WI.

Your responsibilities will include:
  1. Calling on Beef Cattle, Equine, and Small Ruminant animal owners (primary focus being Cattle and Equine) to evaluate existing feeding programs and recommend nutritional solutions.
  2. Selling/consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week) to sell Purina products and grow sales and market share, including developing new prospects and making cold calls.
  3. Organizing and conducting educational meetings/events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, vets, trainers, lifestyle show clubs, etc., to enhance Purina's brand image, sell products, and increase store traffic with local co-op/dealer.
Experience/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field strongly desired.
  • Candidates with a pending bachelor's degree or proven sales and industry experience may be considered.
  • Previous sales experience highly desired.
  • Basic knowledge of nutritional and feeding recommendations for Beef Cattle/Equine owners.
  • Understanding of animal husbandry, current management practices, nutritional guidelines, and industry knowledge.
  • Experience in management and care of Horses and Cattle.
  • Ability to provide accurate feeding and management recommendations.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, and ability to learn ration balancing software (HerdSmart), Salesforce, etc.
  • Solid background with Cattle, Equine, and Lifestyle animals.
Competencies & Other Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organization and time management.
  • High internal drive, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
  • Ability and motivation to make multiple daily sales calls.
  • Comfortable on-farm interactions in all weather conditions.
  • Networking skills within the industry to foster business relationships.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Public speaking skills.
Travel:

- Approximately 15% overnight travel, plus daily travel within the assigned area.

Compensation:

This sales role offers a target mix of base salary plus commission. The base salary typically ranges from $53,000 to $60,000, depending on experience, with a target bonus of $10,000. Candidates can generally expect to be hired near the middle of this range.
