Position: Feed Sales Representative - Purina Animal Nutrition

We are hiring a Feed Sales Representative to focus on Equine and Cattle feed sales with our partner co-op in the NE IN/NW OH territory. This role involves selling feed and related products that optimize the cooperative/dealer’s market share and savings, improve efficiency, and help achieve the cooperative/dealer’s goals.

This is a remote (virtual) field-based sales position located within the geographic territory of NE IN/NW OH.

Responsibilities

1. Calling on Equine and Cattle owners to evaluate existing feeding programs and recommend nutritional solutions.
2. Selling and consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week) to sell Purina products, grow sales, and develop new prospects, including cold calls.
3. Organizing and conducting educational meetings/events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, vets, trainers, and show clubs to promote Purina’s brand, sell products, and increase store traffic.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field strongly preferred. Candidates with a pending degree or proven sales/industry experience may be considered.
2. Previous sales experience highly desired.
3. Ability to provide nutritional and feeding recommendations for horses and cattle.
4. Understanding of husbandry, management practices, and nutritional guidelines for cattle and horses.
5. Proficiency in MS Office; training on ration balancing software (HerdSmart), Salesforce, etc., is a plus.
6. Strong experience with cattle, equine, or show animals.

Skills and Competencies

1. Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
2. High internal drive, relationship-building ability, and team leadership skills.
3. Ability to make multiple daily sales calls and interact with animals on farms in all weather conditions.
4. Networking skills to connect producers and grow business.
5. Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
6. Public speaking skills.

Travel Requirements

Approximately 15% overnight travel, plus daily travel within the assigned geography.

Compensation

This sales role offers a base salary plus commission. The base salary ranges from $59,000 to $66,000, depending on experience and tenure. The target bonus is $15,000. Candidates are typically hired near the middle of the salary range.
