Job summary

The Dixon Group, based in Chestertown, MD, is seeking a Purchasing Supervisor to lead our purchasing team and drive sourcing strategies that ensure material availability and cost competitiveness.

You will collaborate with Production, Accounts Payable, and QA, mentor staff, and optimize inventory while mitigating supply risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and minimum 5 years in purchasing with leadership experience.
  • Strong negotiation, contracts, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, coach, and mentor the Purchasing team and staffing needs.
  • Develop sourcing strategies and manage inventory to minimize risk.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing with key suppliers for best value.
  • Coordinate with Production, Accounts Payable, and QA for material flow and NCRs.
  • Monitor market trends and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Track KPIs like PPV, OTIF, lead times, and turnover.

Work Hours: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Pay Range: $65,000 - $90,000/Annually

The Dixon Group is seeking a Purchasing Supervisor to join our team! In this role, you will develop and implement sourcing strategies to maintain optimal inventory levels while securing cost-effective solutions. You will play a vital role in our manufacturing operations by nurturing supplier relationships, analyzing market trends, and collaborating across departments to ensure the timely delivery of materials. What You’ll Do
  • Direct, coach, and mentor the Purchasing team, managing daily tasks, performance evaluations, and staffing needs while promoting a positive, accountable work environment aligned with Dixon’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Develop purchasing strategies, optimize inventory levels, identify single-source vulnerabilities, and implement dual-sourcing or contingency plans to mitigate supply disruption risks.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiating contracts and pricing terms to ensure the best overall value.
  • Partner with Production and Operations to ensure material availability; work with Accounts Payable to resolve three-way matching discrepancies and approve POs; and collaborate with Quality Assurance to manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Return to Vendor processes, and supplier credits.
  • Analyze market trends, monitor supplier performance, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
  • Track and report on core purchasing metrics, including Purchase Price Variance (PPV), On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery, supplier lead times, and inventory turnover.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement (manufacturing environment preferred), alongside proven leadership experience managing a team.
  • Proficiency in purchasing software, tools, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and analytical problem-solving abilities. You should be a dedicated, detail-oriented team player and self-starter who excels at building relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • APICS, CPIM, or CSCP certification, as well as familiarity with Logility Supply Chain Planning.
