Job summary

Empire Homes in Austin, TX is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead all divisional purchasing activities for residential construction projects, including sourcing, bidding, negotiating, and contracting labor, materials, and services.

You will manage trade partner relationships, monitor costs and budgets, and ensure quality and on-time delivery while collaborating with Construction, Operations, Finance, Land, and Sales & Marketing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 5-10 years of purchasing experience within residential homebuilding; management or supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience negotiating trade partner and supplier agreements, managing budgets and cost controls.
• Strong understanding of homebuilding operations and construction practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead all divisional purchasing activities, including sourcing, bidding, negotiating, and contracting labor, materials, and services for residential construction projects.
• Manage trade partner and supplier relationships, including recruitment, qualification, performance evaluation, and ongoing development.
• Negotiate and maintain contracts, scopes of work, and pricing agreements to ensure cost competitiveness, quality, and service standards.
• Monitor construction costs, budgets, and market conditions to identify risks, control expenses, and drive profitability.
• Partner with Construction, Operations, Sales, and Finance & Accounting teams to support production schedules, community startups, and strategic initiatives.
• Ensure contract compliance, maintain accurate purchasing data and documentation, and resolve purchasing or vendor-related issues.
• Lead and develop the divisional purchasing team while promoting continuous improvement, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading all purchasing and trade partner management activities for the Division. This role oversees the procurement of labor, materials, and services required for residential construction projects, ensuring competitive pricing, quality workmanship, reliable trade partner performance, and adherence to budgets. The Purchasing Manager collaborates closely with Construction, Operations, Finance, Land, and Sales & Marketing teams to support divisional profitability, production goals, and customer satisfaction.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field preferred.


• 5-10 years of purchasing experience within residential homebuilding; management or supervisory experience preferred.


• Experience working with NewStar Enterprise ERP is highly desireable.


• Demonstrated experience negotiating trade partner and supplier agreements, managing budgets and cost controls.


• Strong understanding of homebuilding operations and construction practices.

This role is located in the Austin, TX division office.
