Job summary

thysenkrupp Materials Services is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to compile and manage purchase orders, edit requests, and obtain prices and specifications. The role emphasizes collaboration with vendors, receiving, and quality teams to ensure accurate documentation and timely deliveries.

The position requires a high school diploma, 2–4 years of experience, and proficiency with MS Office; associates degree preferred. Detroit-based role with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 2–4 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with purchasing contacts and internal customers.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and verifies vendor acknowledgements.
• Responds to sales with purchase order updates, date changes or delays.
• Proactively assists with purchase order updates – costs and delivery dates.
• Reconciles unbalanced invoices, working with buyers as needed.
• Works closely with receiving department to provide paperwork as needed.
• Establishes relationships with vendor inside sales contacts.
• Assists with consignment management and system updates.
• Locates and verify inventory discrepancies.
• Reviews and assist with receiving related issues (i.e. reclassify material).
• Assists quality in activities related to credits.
• Communicates effectively with suppliers and quality.
• Meets TKMNA Employee Attributes / Competencies.

Job Summary

The Purchasing Assistant compiles and maintains information and records to prepare purchase orders. Edits purchase requests and prepares purchase orders. Consults catalogs and other references to obtain prices and specifications and maintains files and records of materials, prices, inventories and deliveries.
