Smyth Industries is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a Pump Rig Operator to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

Scope
Under general supervision, the Pump Rig Operator manages daily drilling operations, including pump installation and removal, rehabilitation, and well abandonment prep work. This position ensures efficient, safe, and high-quality work while adhering to Smyth Industries’ policies, safety standards, and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Pump Rig Operations: Take charge of daily rig operations
- Operate the pump rig safely and efficiently during installation and removal of pumping systems
- Ensure well openings are secured per safety standards
- Operate forklift for equipment loading and unloading
- Understand and pass the crane load chart test
- Understand and successfully pass the crane signal test
- Know and identify pipe specification
- Able to properly use a cutting torch
- Properly setup a crane for a prescribed lift
- Able to identify basic metallurgy such as stainless steel, carbon steel and nickel aluminum bronze
- Properly wire electric motor and check motor rotation
- Able to identify inner column assembly manufactures
- Demonstrate ability to take and record amperage readings in non-live situation
- Ability to megohm electrical equipment and interpret readings
- Able to accurately change line on a pump rig
- Exhibit the ability to stick weld
- Ability to perform top end measurements and record for machinist
- Review daily task orders/pre-task planning procedures for clarity and priorities
- Crew & Site Management: Prepare crew with necessary materials and equipment
- Supervise second- and third-man position for tools and equipment readiness
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite
- Ensure all personnel use required PPE
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily inspections of pump rig and tools
- Inspect chains, wrenches, cables, bearings, and hydraulic components
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance with Fleet Manager
- Oversee preventative maintenance and cleanliness of assigned vehicles
- Field Performance: Safely and correctly perform Lockout/Tagout procedures
- Inspect well site for adverse ground control conditions
- Supervise loading and unloading of materials, tooling and equipment
- Perform EODP-for the vehicles used
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and proper waste disposal
- Safety & Compliance: Follow Smyth Industries’ safety policies
- Respond promptly to emergencies or equipment failures
- Document accidents and safety incidents per company procedures
- Reporting & Communication: Complete daily work reports and timecard
- Provide progress updates to Division Manager
- Record operational data for compliance and future reference
- Training & Leadership: Assist in training new crew members on operations, maintenance, and safety procedures
Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge of various pumping system installation and removal methods
- Knowledge of various types of pumping equipment and applications used
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Willingness work flexible schedules
- Overnight travel approx. 10%
- Valid driver's license, pass MVR and drug screening
- lift/carry 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with oxygen/acetylene cutting and welding (certification preferred)
- CDL-A or B
- ADWR License
- Forklift certification
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
