Job summary

Smyth Industries is seeking a General Laborer to support water infrastructure projects in Arizona. The role involves site prep, material handling, and assisting skilled trades across electrical, civil, and manufacturing services.

You will work Monday–Thursday with 4 ten-hour days and may have Friday/Saturday overtime as needed. The ideal candidate embraces teamwork, safety, and a collaborative work environment, contributing to manufacturing and construction efforts in the water sector.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Physically capable of standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, and working outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sites for projects and keep areas clean and organized.
  • Load/unload materials and move tools to designated areas.
  • Safely operate hand/power tools and basic equipment.
  • Assist skilled trades and project teams as needed.
  • Support with assembly, installation and related tasks.
  • Follow supervisor instructions and maintain professional on-site communication.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:

Scope

Under supervision, the General Laborer I is responsible for performing a variety of physical and skilled tasks to support operations at Smyth Industries. This role includes site preparation, material handling, equipment operation, and assisting skilled trades. Support and adhere to the Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Site Preparation & Maintenance: Clean and organize work areas; remove debris
  • Prepare sites for projects
  • Material Handling & Support: Load, unload, and place materials, tools, and equipment in assigned designated areas
  • Assist with material movement and proper disposal of waste
  • Keep tools, materials, and work areas organized
  • Equipment & Tool Operation: Safely operate hand/power tools and basic equipment
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain tools and equipment
  • Follow proper setup and operating procedures for specialized equipment
  • Project Assistance: Support skilled trades and project teams as needed
  • Help with assembly, installation, and related tasks
  • Perform additional duties to ensure project success
  • Communication & Teamwork: Follow supervisor instructions and work collaboratively
  • Maintain clear, professional communication on site
  • Work efficiently to meet schedules and quality standards
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines, OSHA regulations, and site procedures
  • Wear required PPE at all times
  • Participate in safety meetings and hazard reporting
  • Follow safe practices in all environments (including heights/confined spaces)
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check
  • Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle
  • Required to pass a preemployment drug screening
  • Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include standing, walking, bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working outdoors, exposure to weather, dust, equipment noise or standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment
  • The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment
  • Typically works Monday – Thursday, 10-hour shifts between 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional work on Friday or Saturday as business needs require
  • Occasional overtime may be required based on operational needs
Preferred
  • Up to 1 year of construction experience
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong knowledge of water and reclamation construction
  • Speak Spanish
