Smyth Industries Field Services Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a Site Civil Technician to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:
  • Exhibit technical knowledge and experience in the civil construction trade.
  • Exhibit the ability to project materials needed to complete assigned task.

  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled laboring duties related to installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of civil construction tasks.
  • Reassemble equipment, using hand tools.
  • Ability to select tools to complete daily job tasks.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of basic hand tools to perform daily job functions: screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, cordless drills, hand operated saw, level etc.
  • Knowledgeable with working with blueprints and working from written specifications.
  • General site clean‑up, digging trenches, staging material, or all other duties as assigned.
Operating equipment
  • Safely operate equipment and perform various activities including but not limited to fine grading, finishing, sloping, backfilling, loading, excavating, stockpiling, load/unload trucks, grade earth (rock, gravel, other materials), drainage, leveling, grading, and trenching.
  • Operate equipment in accordance with the company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure operation of equipment is within capabilities and limitations.
  • Perform periodical safety and maintenance checks.
  • Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored when not in use.
  • Coordinate with crew members in response to hand and/or audio signals.
  • All other duties assigned by site leadership.
People
  • Mentor field staff to develop ways to more efficiently complete assign task while building a strong team environment.
  • Develop a team relationship with other divisions sharing resources to successfully complete projects on time and under budget.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, etc., providing customer service to develop long‑term partnerships with client base and stakeholders.
  • Mentor field staff to develop ways to more efficiently complete assign task while building a strong team environment.
  • Develop a team relationship with other divisions.
  • Ability to lead a team, complete project assigned tasks, while working under minimal supervision
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment and work with other division.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 1‑4 years civil construction trade minimum required.
  • Proficient in all the following tasks: installing aboveground piping, installing underground piping, installing hydro pneumatic tanks, install hydro pneumatic tank apprentices, set forms for concrete, finish concrete, site grading, and/or general mechanical skills.
  • Ability to operate a skid steer, mini excavator, and backhoe, 1 year required.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Self‑motivated, task‑oriented, leader
  • Required to possess a valid driver’s license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
  • Required to pass a pre‑employment drug screening.
  • Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50‑pound objects, carrying 50‑pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Applicant should be comfortable work around industrial equipment.
Preferred
  • Experience leading coworkers.
  • Strong knowledge in water and reclamation construction
  • Speak Spanish
