RTX is offering a full-time co-op in Rockford, IL, focused on aerospace engineering and pump development. You will provide engineering support for the Fuel and Oil pump line, assist with CFD analyses for new designs, and drive RCCA activities to improve reliability and quality.

This onsite internship runs June–December, Monday–Friday, with opportunities to learn from design engineers and participate in field investigations, supplier inquiries, and change management processes.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM major and enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience using analytical software such as MATLAB, CAD, NX, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Provide Engineering support and ownership for the Fuel and Oil pump product line in support of new development pump design efforts and production/fielded pump programs
  • Support lead design engineers in performance of CFD analysis in support of new pump designs and field investigations
  • Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts to identify causes and mitigation plans for issues affecting pump program productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction
  • Provide customer support for Field Failure investigations
  • Resolve Supplier Requests for Information (SRIs) by providing clarifications and processing Change Requests (CRs)

What You Will Do:
  • Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run June-December (including the Fall semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).
  • Provide Engineering support and ownership for the Fuel and Oil pump product line in support of new development pump design efforts and production/fielded pump programs

What You Will Learn:
  • Manage piece part supplier transitions
  • Pursue cost saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
  • Consolidate and present plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project.
  • Support Quality investigations as necessary when piece-part issues affect product deliveries.
  • Verify internal processes are being executed to reduce probability of engineering turn backs.
  • Read and interpret drawings, provide mark ups, and coordinate drawing changes.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience using analytical and developmental software such as MATLAB, CAD, NX, and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint)

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with mechanical hardware is preferred

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
