Job summary

RTX in Rockford, IL, offers a full-time co-op for mechanical or aerospace engineering students, January through July/August, with a hands-on mentorship focused on the Fuel and Oil pump line and related development and production programs.

You will assist design engineers with CFD analyses, lead RCCA efforts, support field failure investigations and supplier inquiries, and gain exposure to drawing reads, changes, and the overall lifecycle of aerospace hardware.

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience using analytical and developmental software such as MATLAB, CAD, NX, and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January- July/August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).
  • Provide Engineering support and ownership for the Fuel and Oil pump product line in support of new development pump design efforts and production/fielded pump programs
  • Support lead design engineers in performance of CFD analysis in support of new pump designs and field investigations
  • Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts to identify causes and mitigation plans for issues affecting pump program productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction
  • Provide customer support for Field Failure investigations
  • Resolve Supplier Requests for Information (SRIs) by providing clarifications and processing Change Requests (CRs)

What You Will Do:

What You Will Learn:
  • Manage piece part supplier transitions
  • Pursue cost saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
  • Consolidate and present plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project.
  • Support Quality investigations as necessary when piece-part issues affect product deliveries.
  • Verify internal processes are being executed to reduce probability of engineering turn backs.
  • Read and interpret drawings, provide mark ups, and coordinate drawing changes.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with mechanical hardware is preferred

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
