Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM seeks graduate student interns to join a dynamic pulsed power accelerator research team. Interns collaborate across electrical, physics, mechanical engineering and related fields on a range of topics from vacuum systems to RF circuitry and diagnostics.

You will gain hands-on experience with high-power systems, assist design, testing, and modeling, and contribute to state-of-the-art experiments at the Z facility under experienced mentors.

Qualifications

• Earned bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled full-time in a science/engineering/math graduate program.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 required.

Responsibilities

• Support experimental vacuum system design, construction, and operation in pulsed power labs.
• Assist mechanical/electrical design and assembly of pulsed power equipment.
• Participate in measurements of materials outgassing and electrode desorption under extreme conditions.
• Help model pulsed power system designs using circuit/particle-in-cell codes.
• Develop and analyze plasma diagnostics to understand electrode plasma formation.
• Contribute to measuring voltages/currents in high-voltage systems resistant to plasma/interference.
