Job summary

The City of Crystal Lake Public Works Department is hiring for Winter Seasonal Staff. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, from roughly Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 31, 2027, with possible overtime for snow and ice events.

Responsibilities include pothole patching, tree trimming, sign maintenance, and safe operation of snow removal. Must have Illinois Class B license with air brake endorsement and be able to lift 50 pounds; background check and medical exam including drug screen

Job description

The City of Crystal Lake Public Works Department seeks motivated individuals for Winter Seasonal Staff to work 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, approximately November 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027. The City can be flexible on the number of weekdays worked, however the position requires candidates to be available for snow and ice control as needed, including overtime.

The individual in this position will be responsible for typical street maintenance activities including pothole patching, tree trimming, sign maintenance, among other duties in addition to the safe operation of snow removal and prompt response to emergency weather situations.

Must be knowledgeable in all equipment required for snow removal and maintenance related issues, and related reporting. Must also be able to comprehend route sheets and written directions and responsible for keeping track of time, materials, and job progress. Must have snow removal experience clearing roads, cul-de-sacs, parking lots, and sidewalks.

The successful candidate will possess a valid Illinois Class B Driver’s License with non-restricted air brake endorsement and be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Must also be able to successfully pass a background check, and pre-employment medical exam, including a drug screen.

The salary for this seasonal position is $28.00 per hour.
