Job summary

The City of Savage is seeking three dependable, hardworking individuals to join the Public Works Department as temporary Maintenance Workers - two in the Parks Division and one in the Streets Division.

Temporary Maintenance Workers support the safe, clean, and well-maintained condition of City parks, streets, facilities, and other public infrastructure, including snow and ice removal and operation of related equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 by November 16, 2026.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• All applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check prior to employment.
• Previous experience in public works, parks, grounds, construction, or related work.

Responsibilities

• Provide snow and ice removal and assist with maintenance of parks, streets, facilities, and equipment.
• Operate light and heavy equipment to remove snow and ice from streets, trails, sidewalks, and parking lots.
• Perform manual labor including shoveling, lifting, pushing, and moving materials.
• Safely operate and maintain woodchippers to process branches and debris.
• Report mechanical or operational deficiencies to supervisor.
• Follow safety procedures and use PPE.
• Work cooperatively with other divisions and departments.

Job description

The City of Savage is seeking three dependable, hardworking individuals to join the Public Works Department as temporary Maintenance Workers - two in the Parks Division and one in the Streets Division.

Temporary Maintenance Workers support the safe, clean, and well-maintained condition of City parks, streets, facilities, and other public infrastructure. Duties include snow and ice removal and the safe operation and upkeep of related City equipment.

These positions involve both independent work and teamwork in a variety of Minnesota winter weather conditions, including snow, sleet, ice, and cold temperatures.

Temporary work hours may vary and could range from 25 to 40 hours per week. Some night and weekend hours, when necessary to plow snow.

2026 Pay Range: $17.51/hour - $23.06/hour

• Provide snow and ice removal services and assist with the maintenance and operation of parks, streets, outdoor ice rinks, facilities, and equipment, as assigned.
• Operate light and heavy equipment to remove snow and ice from streets, trails, sidewalks, parking lots, parks, and other public areas.
• Perform manual labor, including shoveling, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving materials and equipment.
• Safely operate and maintain woodchippers to process branches and tree debris.
• Assist with routine maintenance and minor repairs of assigned equipment and promptly report mechanical or operational deficiencies to the supervisor.
• Follow established safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Work cooperatively with other divisions and departments in the maintenance of City infrastructure and facilities and the delivery of public work services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures used in snow removal, streets, parks, grounds, and facility maintenance.
• Knowledge of safe operation and basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of safety practices and hazards associated with snow and ice removal.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally exert force up to 100 pounds to move objects or equipment accessories.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying Minnesota weather conditions, in both daylight and nighttime conditions.
• Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
