Job summary

Plant Operator or Trainee - Wastewater Treatment

The City of Nacogdoches Public Works Department is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Water Utilities team as a Plant Operator or Trainee in Wastewater Treatment.

This is a great opportunity to start a career in municipal utilities! Prior experience is preferred, but not required. We will provide the training you need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

Tour the plant regularly to check pumps, engines, generators, chlorinators and filters, ensuring all equipment runs smoothly.

Collect water samples, perform standard laboratory tests and accurately log daily data.

Adjust motors, valves and chemical feeds to keep operations within permit limits.

Assist with facility maintenance, repairs and groundskeeping.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• A valid Texas Driver license.
• The ability to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class D Wastewater License within one (1) year of hire date. (Pay is dependent upon possession of Class A, B, C or D Wastewater License with certificate/license pay up to $200.00 per month, for additional TCEQ licenses).

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

• Working knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, safety procedures and permitting requirements.
• Familiarity with standard laboratory tests and procedures.
