Job summary

The Town of Flower Mound Public Works is hiring for wastewater treatment operations positions. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining plant equipment, monitoring system performance, and ensuring safe, compliant operations to deliver potable water and wastewater services.

Eligible applicants must hold a Texas Class C Wastewater Operator license (or obtain one within 12 months), have a GED/HS diploma, and possess at least one year of wastewater plant experience; a TX driver’s license

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • TCEQ Class C Wastewater Operator license before offer; Class C Water Distribution Certificate within 12 months.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license; clean driving record.
  • Minimum 1 year wastewater plant operations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment (pumps, valves, motors, filters, gauges, meters).
  • Operate water distribution system equipment to ensure reliable service.
  • Monitor flow, DO, ammonia; adjust processes as needed.
  • Maintain logs and prepare monthly wastewater reports.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, blowers, and related equipment.
  • Adhere to safety, department policies; assist coworkers as needed.

Job description

Public Works is currently hiring for several essential positions that play a critical role in maintaining the Town's infrastructure. To help fill these important vacancies, the Town has approved both a Sign-On Incentive Program and an Employee Referral Incentive Program.

Sign-On Incentive – $1,500

The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).

Key details:

  • Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
  • Limited to one sign-on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
  • Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.
Employee Referral Incentive – $1,500

For eligible Public Works positions (excluding Administrative Staff), employees may receive:

  • $500 when the referred employee is hired.
  • $1,000 after the referred employee successfully completes six months of employment.
  • $1,500 total incentive.

  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Under general supervision, operates and maintains the biological treatment process, chemical treatment systems, mechanical equipment, and labor operations of the wastewater treatment plant. Monitors and operates sewage lift stations and the water distribution system.

  • Monitors and operates wastewater treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, filters, gauges, and meters to ensure proper operation of the plant and sewage lift stations.
  • Monitors and operates water distribution system equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, gauges, and meters to maintain reliable operation of the water distribution system.
  • Tracks wastewater flow, dissolved oxygen concentration, and ammonia concentration; makes process adjustments as needed.
  • Monitors water storage tank levels and distribution pressures; adjusts system operations to meet consumer demand for potable water.
  • Operates bio‑solids dewatering equipment as needed.
  • Collects wastewater samples and interprets lab results to make process adjustments.
  • Maintains daily logs and prepares monthly reports on wastewater operations.
  • Keeps work areas clean, safe, and organized around plant processes and buildings.
  • Completes preventive and corrective maintenance work orders on pumps, motors, air blowers, and other equipment in a timely manner.
  • Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, and unfamiliar situations.
  • Adheres to the personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
  • Assist coworkers as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "C" Wastewater Operator license prior to employment offer and obtain a Class “C” Water Distribution Certificate within 12 months of hire.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations is required.

  • Must be able to read, write, see, hear, and walk.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical tasks, including exerting up to 100 lbs. of force; lifting heavy objects; shoveling for extended periods; crawling; bending; walking; kneeling; and climbing on and off equipment.
  • Must be able to operate moving and vibrating machinery.
  • Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, underground, and in confined spaces, including on level, uneven, unstable, or muddy terrain, and tolerate constant noise.

Must be able to work in adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat, sun exposure) and hazardous situations involving mechanical, electrical, fume, odor, dust/mist, chemical, toxic waste, and other solid waste substances.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, equipment, and materials as well as sewage lift station and potable water distribution system operations.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with SCADA systems.
  • Good hand‑foot‑eye coordination to operate equipment.
  • Ability to work various shifts in a 24‑hour period, including nights, weekends and holidays.
