Job summary

The City of Nacogdoches Public Works Department is hiring for a Plant Operator or Trainee in Wastewater Treatment. This hands-on role supports protecting public health and the environment. Training is provided, and prior experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities include monitoring pumps and equipment, collecting samples, performing lab tests, and adjusting systems to meet permit limits. A Texas driver license is required, with a path to TCEQ Class D license within one year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas Driver license required.
• Ability to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class D Wastewater License within one year of hire; higher licenses may increase pay up to $200/month.

Responsibilities

• Tour the plant regularly to check pumps, engines, generators, chlorinators and filters.
• Collect water samples, perform standard laboratory tests and log daily data.
• Adjust motors, valves and chemical feeds to keep operations within permit limits.
• Assist with facility maintenance, repairs and groundskeeping.
