Job summary

Hanover County Government's Public Works Department seeks a Waste Disposal Superintendent to supervise Solid Waste operations and related services, ensuring compliance with Federal/State/County regulations. The role directs staff, oversees transfer stations, yard waste facilities, drainage projects, and the transportation of waste and recyclables.

The incumbent coordinates with other agencies on special projects, maintains critical DEQ documents, and ensures safety and environmental inspections

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 3 years related supervisory experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training acceptable.
• Valid Virginia driver's license and ability to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Supervises employees and completes HR paperwork as needed.
• Oversees transfer station operations, scales and yard waste facilities.
• Maintains equipment and coordinates repairs.
• Responds to emergencies and oversees drainage/basin maintenance.
• Oversees street sign installations and the transport of waste/recyclables.
• Maintains DEQ documents for transfer stations and landfills.
• Performs environmental and safety inspections; may substitute for the Waste Collection Superintendent.
• Engages with officials, employees and the public to answer questions.
