Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County is seeking Skilled Laborers for the Merit System to support construction and maintenance of streets, drainage, utilities, and public facilities. Work involves using power tools and mechanical equipment with setup, adjustment and operation under supervisor direction.

Typical duties include assisting craftsmen, maintaining equipment, patching potholes, sewer and storm drain work, and park/right-of-way maintenance.

Qualifications

• Driver's license is required for consideration.
• Experience using measuring equipment (e.g., tape measure, level).
• Experience using hand tools (e.g., screwdriver, hammer, saw, rake, shovel).
• Experience with gas powered equipment (weed eater, mower, chainsaw, compactor).
• Experience mixing concrete.

Responsibilities

• Assists skilled craftsmen with repairs to County/City facilities and responds to emergencies as needed.
• Performs equipment maintenance, including loading, cleaning, fueling and repairs for safe operation.
• Maintains streets and sidewalks, patches potholes, and repairs utility cuts and sidewalks.
• Gathers tools/materials, conducts pre-trip inspections, and supports park maintenance and landscaping.
• Supports sewer lines, storm drains, culverts work, digging trenches and related tasks.
