Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County is seeking a well-qualified Construction Supervisor for its Roads & Transportation department. The role involves planning, assigning, and evaluating the work of crews in construction, maintenance, and repair projects, overseeing paving operations, traffic control, culvert installation, and drainage systems, with supervision through subordinate staff.

Qualifications

• Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Experience in heavy road construction methods such as paving, culverts, and storm sewer work.
• Experience operating heavy equipment like excavators, loaders, rollers, asphalt paver.
• Experience leading crews and maintenance/construction tasks.
• Experience setting up traffic work zones with safety equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction and participates in biosolids collection, transport, and maintenance activities.
• Coordinates and participates in the demolition of condemned structures by locating property and planning actions.
• Directs and participates in installation and repair of culverts, sewers, sidewalks and related structures.
• Directs park construction and maintenance, ensuring tools/materials are available and damage is prevented.
• Coordinates daily activities of construction crews and prepares equipment for the day.
• Participates in road paving and maintenance to ensure compliance with guidelines and standards.
• Prepares crew/equipment on arrival, delegates tasks, and ensures safety protocols are followed.
• Supervises staff by distributing work and providing feedback/training.
• Performs end-of-day tasks including truck cleaning and headcount.
