Job summary

The City of Bastrop is seeking an Equipment Operator for the Public Works Streets & Drainage team to support construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems. Under supervision, operate light duty equipment and assist with traffic control.

Requires a valid Texas Driver License and a high school diploma or GED, with 6–12 months of equipment operation experience. Be part of a dedicated team serving the Bastrop community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 6–12 months of equipment operation experience.
• Ability to operate light duty equipment safely and effectively.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver License with a clean driving record.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate striping machines, tractors, sweepers, rollers, skid steers, dump trucks and water trucks for streets and drainage work.
• Repair streets and drainage areas caused by striping, potholes, or construction activities.
• Maintain streets, right of ways, and drainage systems; clean debris from grates and inlets; install and repair signage.
• Maintain work orders and records of vehicle and equipment maintenance.
• Assist with placement of traffic control devices and safety indicators at worksites.
• Attend safety meetings and follow department policies; collaborate with supervisors and the public.
• Support other Public Works tasks as needed.
